Some of what you'll be doing:
The Labor Compensation Analyst will provide compensation and benefits research and analysis to support Port of Seattle total rewards. You will support labor relations and the collective bargaining process as well as administration of non-represented total rewards plans and programs.
- You will proactively gather data from other public agencies, and private employers when requested or appropriate, to develop market rates for represented jobs that include both pay and benefits to support planning for and negotiations of collective bargaining agreements. Your work will include partnering with Labor Relations to develop related strategies and you will actively participate in some negotiations meetings and will present the results of your market research and analysis.
- You will bring a total rewards administration perspective to the collective bargaining negotiation process to support smooth implementation and ongoing administration of final collective bargaining agreements. You will use your knowledge of the Port’s Peoplesoft Human Capital Management (HCM) system and how the Port uses it to facilitate discussions with Labor Relations Managers, HR Technology staff, Payroll staff, Total Rewards staff, and others as appropriate to ensure negotiated changes can reasonably and simply administered.
- You will develop a clear understanding of the current total rewards data gathering, analysis, and costing processes, discuss advantages and disadvantages of the current processes as well as options for enhancing the process with Labor Relations Managers.
- You will market price and assign non-represented jobs to the Port’s pay ranges as requested utilizing standard Port methodologies and business processes, and when the evaluated job has an incumbent(s) you will recommend pay changes consistent with Port methodologies and business processes.
- You will review pay and benefit rate change memos calculated and written by the Labor Relations Analyst for accuracy as requested to support accurate HCM updates to represented employees’ total rewards.
- You will respond to requests from other public and or private employers for data to support a cooperative relationship of data sharing as appropriate.
Who you are:
Two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education:
- Experienced – You have 5 (five) years of increasingly responsible Human Resource and or Labor Relations experience that includes supporting the collective bargaining process by gathering and analyzing total rewards data and costing contracts as well as experience market pricing non-represented jobs.
- Educated – You possess Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge together with well-developed critical thinking, project management, effective communication, and work prioritization skills.
- Knowledgeable – You have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the collective bargaining process. You are knowledgeable of represented and non-represented pay and benefits programs and structures including pay rates, retirement benefits, healthcare benefits, and time off benefits, and market pricing methodologies.
- Expert – You have well-developed presentation skills, including the ability to effectively present data to multiple levels of employees, and to sometimes skeptical audiences; skill in leveraging reporting tools, such excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, HRIS systems, etc. You are a skilled communicator and have demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
- Collaborator – You can work in a matrix organization driving collaboration across multiple levels in the organization and across business functions.
What else you need to know:
- Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, you may be required to respond to requests outside of normal workdays and hours.
- Work Environment – This is a hybrid work environment with flexibility to allow for in-office and teleworking.
- Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
- Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you will/must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
