Position Description:

We are seeking three qualified candidates for the Sr. Compensation/Classification Analyst role with the Compensation and Classification Services Unit.  Two of these positions will be a regular, full-time position and the third will be a 6-month temporary position (possible extension). The incumbents in these positions will participate as members of the Compensation/Classification Team to provide specialized services related to the implementation and maintenance of the City's classification and compensation systems and programs.  This senior level offers a challenging opportunity to work independently on exceptionally sensitive, visible and sometimes controversial classification and pay program issues.
 

Job Responsibilities:

A successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated a drive for results and proven innovation and creativity in their knowledge and experience related to compensation. Specifically, the work requires: 

  • Experience with planning and coordination of classification & pay studies for represented and non-represented positions.  
  • Knowledge of job analysis and evaluation, including point factor methods, to determine classification placement. Writing formal determination reports; prepare and support classification recommendations; develop and/or revise class specifications. 
  • Ability to apply compensation knowledge of program design, market pricing techniques and methodologies, and salary administration practices to create, implement, maintain and evaluate employee compensation programs at the City. 
  • Skill presenting and supporting salary recommendations consistent with the City's compensation philosophy and pay administration systems at labor negotiations and management meetings using market pricing and internal alignment analyses. 
  • Ability to lead the development and design of complex, innovative classification and pay programs. 
  • Ability to review position classification requests and advise departments regarding job design. Interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures for City management and human resource representatives 
  • Skill to determine proper sources of and appropriate use of data, perform complex analyses and data manipulation and provide recommendations appropriate for pay and/or classification adjustments. 
  • Willingness to prepare requests for project proposals, coordinate consultant selection and monitor project processes. 
  • Drive to develop, research, design and present audits and reports for Ability to serve as lead on special assignments and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree in human resource management, business or public administration, social sciences, or a related field and three years experience in professional personnel administration (or a combination of education, training, or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
