The Leave of Absence Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering requests for leaves of absence and subsequent claims including, but not limited to the following: FMLA, ADA, worker's compensation, personal and other leaves, ensuring compliance with all government regulations and Symetra benefits programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Administer requests for leaves of absence and subsequent claims including, but not limited to the following: FMLA, ADA, worker's compensation, personal and other leaves, ensuring compliance with all government regulations and Symetra benefits programs.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for employees (inquiring about and/or requesting a leave of absence) and their managers, as well as aligned human resources relationship manager. Proactively communicate with employees to set expectations, assess employee requests and keep the employee fully aware of the status of the claim.
  • Facilitate return to work options to minimize employee time off and sustained employee engagement.
  • Document and record all leave details, case notes, discussions, etc. in applicable records management system.
  • Process timecards and upload into Symetra's payroll system for employees on leaves of absence.
  • Perform other administrative tasks for cases handled by Leaves & Accommodations Consultant.
  • Assist with other benefits programs and projects, as assigned.
  • On a limited basis, serve as backup for Benefits Administrator.

Education Required:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Years of Related Work Experience Required:
One year related experience administering leaves of absence and worker's compensation. Strong working knowledge of various leave laws (i.e., FMLA, DFRA, PDL and ADA) and worker's compensation laws, leave management processes, as well as the ability to apply them in practice.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Strong customer satisfaction focus. Strong multi-tasking, prioritization and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must be proactive, results oriented and have strong attention to detail. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality. Self-motivated.

Must be willing to travel 0-25% to Bellevue, WA office as needed. 

Education/Experience/Licensing Training/Skills/Abilities PREFERRED:
Claims administration experience (including claims in all states and involving FML, STD, ADA, etc.).
