    Responsible for the coordination and administration of all benefit and retirement plans for the organization.  Serves as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for employees as it relates to benefit and retirement questions/issues.  Works closely with benefit and retirement vendors and ensures good working relationships.  Coordinates annual Open Enrollment, annual retirement audit and quarterly retirement meetings.  Processes benefit/retirement changes, prepares reports, and reconciles billing.  Partners with manager in seeking out and developing benefit programs which will attract and retain outstanding employees and position Overlake as an employer of choice in the community


    • Administer all aspects of benefit programs assuring competitiveness, cost effectiveness and compliance with state and federal regulations.  Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for employee benefit questions and issues.  Benefits include but are not limited to:  medical, vision, dental, life, LTD, 125 Health and Dependent Care Reimbursement accounts and misc. voluntary benefit programs.
    • Work closely with benefit vendors and ensure good working relationships.  Prepare monthly insurance billings, ensuring accuracy and submit to benefits broker and other carriers in a timely manner.  Work with benefits broker as needed to reconcile insurance billings to payroll system withholding registers to ensure accurate deductions and liability postings.  Ensure Met Pay, GET College Savings, EAP and group legal monthly billings are submitted in a timely matter
    • Responsible for coordinating the annual Open Enrollment, which includes the annual Benefits Fair, annual health screening, changes to benefit rates, update of benefit booklets, communications, etc.  Partner with manager in the annual benefit renewal in determining changes and charges for the next plan year.  Manage vendor relationships and liaison with vendors regarding program expenses, utilization rates and customer service.  Continually seek out and develop process improvement and expense reduction opportunities.
    • Serve as the HRIS system expert as it relates to benefit plan and set-ups.  Process changes in benefits for employees such as adding or removing eligibility for benefits.  Process termination Employee ESC’s.
    • Plan and administer all aspects of the Overlake Hospital 403(b) retirement plan which includes serving as a member of the Retirement Workgroup, and serving as staff support for the Overlake Hospital Retirement Administrative Committee (RAC).  Prepare agendas, take minutes and maintain records for the RAC.  Counsel employees on retirement decisions, process retirements, maintain vested HR files, and ensure accurate data entry for payroll processing of 403(b) employee contributions.  
    • Approve and coordinate retirement rollovers, distributions and hardship withdrawal requests. Ensure accurate submittal of contributions to Fidelity website each pay period.  Process annual employer match and employer service contributions
    • Present benefits and retirement information to new hires during the weekly new hire orientation.  Manage new hire sign-ups.  Conduct annual audit of benefit eligibility.
    • Prepare and submit all legally required benefits and retirement reports such as ACA Annual Reporting and communication of SARs.
    • Work with auditors in ensuring a successful annual retirement audit.
    • Maintain the HR webpage for benefits, leaves and retirement.
    • Prepare annual Total Compensation Statements.
    • Contribute to HR policy and procedure development and administration.  Prepare notifications and correspondence regarding appropriate matters for leadership, staff, and others.
    • Represent the hospital in professional organizations.  Remain apprised of legal regulations relating to benefits and Human Resources to ensure company compliance.
    • Follow the policies, procedures, and practices outlined in the Code of Conduct and Organizational Ethics policy.  Report any business practice/compliance concerns according to organization policy.
    • Exhibit behaviors that support the organization’s Service Standards and Cultural Beliefs.
    • Other projects/duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree required.  Equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in employee benefits administration. 
    • Minimum 1-year experience in retirement plans. 
    • Experience in using HRIS systems. 
    • Experience working in healthcare/hospitals preferred. 
    • Additional experience in leaves, compensation or other HR areas desirable. 
    • PHR, SHRM-CP, SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred


    Excellent customer service skills.  Demonstrated diplomacy and professional demeanor, including the ability to present a positive public relations image and the ability to relate to a diversity of people.  Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of trust and confidentiality.  Demonstrated ability to function effectively and professionally in difficult and/or conflict situations. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  Good stand-up presentation skills.  Self-starter and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  Organized, analytical and detail-oriented.  Skilled in using all Microsoft Office Software.  Demonstrated experience using HRIS.  Strong knowledge of employment/labor laws pertaining to Human Resources, benefits and retirement.  Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.

The creation of the department was in response to support departments at an enterprise-wide level as they continue to provide critical services to the growing population of King County.     Selection Process

    Applications will be screened for qualifications throughout the posting period. Applicants who provide evidence that they meet the necessary qualifications and who are the most competitive based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience will be subject to a background screening and reference checks prior to being invited to interviews.

    Assists in the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of strategies, plans, programs and procedures designed to provide for equitable and competitive employee compensation. The work is primarily consultative in nature, and elements of the work include job analysis and documentation, salary survey participation and market data analysis, interpretation of regulatory guidelines, and creation/interpretation of internal policies/standards within the context of the compensation function.



    • Consult with company leaders and human resources on issues pertaining to all areas of compensation management.
    • Handle issues with typically large scope, higher levels of complexity, sensitivity and/or visibility with the organization.
    • Encourage others to take a strategic approach to solving compensation issues as opposed to simply responding to the current situation.
    • Serve as a resource to explain compensation policy and systems.
    • Provide training on compensation related programs.
    • Act as a subject matter expert in areas of compensation practices.

    Salary Management Reporting and Consultation

    • Oversee and run corporate programs such as the annual Focal, Bonus and High Performer Equity Grant processes
    • Maintain compensation calendar of activities for review and approvals including compensation program analysis and executive summaries
    • Job Classification / Market Pricing
    • Conduct the job evaluation process, consult with HR partners and manager who are creating or revising positions to develop job descriptions that meet internal standards and that reflect actual essential functions and minimum requirements.
    • Review job descriptions for content. May request revisions to clarify or enhance the quality and consistency.
    • Research market data and selects appropriate benchmarks. Analyze the position completely to determine its relationship to other positions with the company to ensure internal equity.
    • Prepare cost analysis and pay grade recommendations.
    • Maintain reports and summaries of results.

    Survey Management

    • Participate and analyze salary survey results to ensure current pay practices are cost effective and market competitive.
    • Evaluate market and economic trends. Identify variances and develop recommendations.
    • Analyze costs of proposed recommendations.
    • Manage and perform global total rewards market analysis including competitive market position for current plans including budget recommendations

    Variable Pay

    • Develop, manage, and implement compensation strategies such as plan documents, changes, philosophy and best practices etc.
    • Management and coordination of plans such as executive deferred compensation, producer incentive plans, stock purchase plans/grants
    • All employees are responsible for internal controls in the performance of their assigned duties. Internal Control responsibilities are established in various policies, procedures, and documents, including the Code of Conduct.


    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration preferred. Relevant work experience by substitute for degree
    • 3+ years progressively responsible experience in compensation, including the design and administration of compensation programs
    • Knowledge of FLSA compliance
    • Demonstrated experience solving compensation issues through quantitative and qualitative analysis
    • Experience developing & delivering presentations including executive summaries to various audiences including senior management team and/or divisional leaders
    • Excellent analytical skills including strong spreadsheet capabilities in Excel
    • Teamwork skills with a sense of urgency. The ability to both manage and assist with compensation related activities
    • Ability to lead a variety of projects from start to finish (e.g. needs identification and assessment, modeling and analysis, solution design and implementation).
    • Process improvement oriented and the ability to make recommendations and decisions
